Projects
I have a wide range of experience in the various construction sectors, although my expertise is on the Residential and Mixed use sector. I have a particular interest in sustainable architecture and retro-fit.
Here are a few examples of my recent residential projects. Please contact me to discuss your project, residential or other.
Downfield Close, Thornbury
Single floor rear timber frame office and playroom.
This project is a good example of how to create extra space in your home using timber frame construction rather than traditional cavity wall construction. Timber frame is lighter and faster to build yet this design achieves the same thermal performance as the traditional build. We worked in partnership with a specialist timber frame contractor. This small extension was built in just 4 weeks and the clients now have an allocated 'home office' room and an extra playroom/tv room for their kids.
Queen's Road
Split level rear extension and interior design and refurbishment
Split level rear extension and interior design and refurbishment. The existing house is 1.5m above garden level, this made use of the garden impractical for the family. My brief was to design an extension which would be physically and visually integrated to the existing kitchen and dinning room, but also would breach the level difference with the garden integrating it in a smooth and seamless way.
Trelawney Avenue
Interior architecture
The house is a typical early 20th Century Terrace House in Cotham. The client wanted to maximise their space, add a Ground Floor Toilet and make the existing social rooms more integrated without losing their individual identity and purpose, all that without increasing the floor area. Although the original hallway was quite generous, the only way to fit a downstairs toilet was by modifying the staircase. The proposal involved changing the last few steps of the flight, by adding a winder and changing the direction of flow, freeing the corner for the coveted new toilet facilities. This proposal, would have scared most people, but these clients embraced it and the results were amazing. The wood work done to the stairs was so professional that no one would be able to tell that those stairs have ever been tampered with. To integrate the living room to the kitchen and dining space a structural opening was formed and a set of reclaimed sliding doors were fitted. The small circulation space to the side of the kitchen, previously only used for bins, was integrated to the kitchen. This relatively small area made a proportionately big difference to the amount of storage space in the kitchen, allowing for a clever, large, corner ladder unit and a large American Fridge Freezer to be added to the kitchen. Small changes, big results!
Kellaway Avenue
Single floor rear extension and refurbishment of existing
The original 1960's semi-detached house was in poor state of repair. The intention was to extend the house to the rear, under the permitted development rights, and re model the interior to form a new Kitchen, dinning and 'snug' area and utility room. The intention was to create an open and light space fully integrated with the garden, which was also designed and landscaped to suit. By moving the kitchen into the original house (originally the 2nd reception) and using the extension as the main social space (dining and lounge space), a full width bifold doors was used to create visual and physical integration with between the house and the garden. A level patio, finished with the same porcelain tiles provides extra visual and physical integration between indoors and outdoors.
